Welcome Aboard!

Are you ready for a little tranquility? How about a little excitement? Both can be yours when you are at the helm of a sailboat. And there is no better place to sail than on Lake Erie with the Cedar Island Yacht Club, Canada’s most southern and Essex County’s most economical sailing club.

The Tranquility

There is nothing like the experience of turning off your motor, watching the wind fill the sails and enjoying the sound of the waves lapping the hull. It really is that peaceful. Set your course for nearby Leamington or Pelee Island or the shores of Michigan or Ohio. They are all within easy access.

The Excitement

Cedar Island Yacht Club has an active racing program that can provide you with all the excitement you want. Skipper your boat or be part of a crew - either way, you’ll enjoy the thrill, the strategy and the changeable Lake Erie’s winds.

No Idea How to Sail?
No Boat?
No problem.
We have a Program For You!

Our Ontario Sail certified trainers will teach you how to sail on one of
Cedar Island Yacht Club’s keelboats which are equipped with all safety equipment required by the Canadian Coast Guard. There is a mix of classroom and on-the-water instruction so by the end of the six-week course, you’ll be certified to solo sail. The cost of the course is $300 and your tuition is applied to your Club initiation fee if you decide to join.

A Little Information About Cedar Island Yacht Club

We are a working club. Our members contribute to the work necessary to keep it active and vital. Once a member, you are expected to contribute 20 hours of service a year. There are many opportunities to volunteer; how about helping with grounds upkeep or assisting on our tug “Little Toot” to help dredge the channel. Maybe you’d enjoy being part of the boat launch or haul-out crews. And, if these don’t suit, there are a number of social events held throughout the year where you can assist by preparing food, serving, and clean-up. Whatever you choose to do, you’ll have the opportunity to develop lasting friendships.

Club Management

Cedar Island Yacht Club is a not-for-profit organization. All funds acquired from the membership are reinvested in the Club to improve our facilities and infrastructure. The day-to-day business of the Club is managed by an Executive body made up of a Commodore, Past Commodore, Vice Commodore, Secretary, Treasurer and Chairs of the Social, Dredging, Property, Docks, and Racing Committees. These positions are open to all Full members who want to take on the challenges of managing the Club and each position has a one-year term. We are governed by Bylaws and Policies that guide the Executive and provide transparency in all of the Club’s business. The Executive meets once a month and the minutes of every meeting are posted on the website for membership review.
