Sail Canada Basic Cruising Standard
The objective of this course is to provide novice sailors with the necessary skills to safely day cruise in local waters in moderate winds.

Competencies developed will enable students to skipper or become a crew member using a 24’ fixed-keel sailboat.

Receiving a Basic Cruising Standard is similar to receiving your beginner’s driving license for an automobile. With continued practice and experience you will improve your skill and your confidence. No prior experience for this course is needed.

This 25-30 hour course delivered over 6 weeks is divided into two parts:

•
Afloat Skills (practical) which you are given instruction and you then demonstrate your sailing ability at the helm and on-the-water.

•
Ashore Knowledge (theory) which you learn: sailing theory, rules of the water, and terminology.

On successful completion of this course, you are provided with official recognition from
Sail Canada with logbook and proficiency seal.

You will also be eligible to receive a one year free membership of Cedar Island Yacht Club. This one-year trial membership will allow you to rent a vessel to practice and enjoy your new hobby.

Cost: $300+HST ($339.00)

• Family discounts are available
• Text book and other printed material included
• The $300 tuition is deducted from your initiation fee for full-time membership after the one-year trial

Dates: Courses are scheduled during the months of May, June, July, and August. Times and dates will determined to best accommodate instructors and students.
