Learn to Sail Program
Sail Canada Basic Cruising Standard
The Basic Cruising Standard course will provide novice sailors with the necessary skills to safely day cruise in local waters in moderate winds. The skills you will develop will enable you to skipper or become a crew member using a 24’ fixed-keel sailboat. Receiving a Basic Cruising Standard is similar to receiving your beginner’s driving license for an automobile. With continued practice and experience you will improve your skill and your confidence. No prior experience for this course is needed.
This 25-30 hour course, delivered over 6 weeks, is divided into two parts:
Afloat Skills (practical) during which you are given instruction and demonstrate your sailing ability at the helm and on the water.
Ashore Knowledge (theory) during which you learn sailing theory, rules of the water, and terminology.
Cost: $385 + HST
• Family discounts are available
• Text book and other printed material are included.
Dates - Courses are scheduled during the months of May, June, July, and August. Times and dates will be determined to best accommodate students and instructors.
